Top Makeup Trends in the UAE: A Guide for Every Fashionista!

While makeup is a form of self-expression and isn’t really affected by trends but we cannot also deny the fact that fashion industry plays a huge role in forming the opinion around fashion and beauty trends. Some makeup trends might be more popular in one part of the world as compared to the other but the general flow of tide seems the same globally. Today, I am going to share with you top 5 emerging makeup trends these days which are equally relevant in the UAE.

Achieve 'Glass Skin' Perfection:

Korean beauty and music industry might be the pioneer of this trend but the world has caught on and now glowy, healthy looking skin is a global phenomenon. Glass skin starts with religious skincare routine, you must cleanse, tone and hydrate your skin twice a day to see lasting results. Then you may use a light weight, medium coverage, hydrating foundation or a BB Cream mixed with a facial oil or a liquid highlighter to achieve flawless looking complexion.

Embrace 'Statement Lips' for a Fuller Pout:

If you are someone who loves a nice fuller pout then this is the trend for you. Statement Lips have made a comeback and vibrant bold colours such as deep reds, purples, and oranges are back in fashion. You may pair a dark lip colour with the similar colour lip liner or use a dark taupe liner to fake the shadows of fuller lips and then fill in the rest of the lips with bold colour. This trend adds a stunning touch to your overall look.

Revitalize Your Look with 'Graphic Eyeliner':

Eyeliner has always been an integral part of women’s makeup. It has gone from being dark and dramatic in 1920’s to softer thinner lines in 1940’s and back to graphic styles in 1950’s and 60’s. Twiggy and Sophia Loren’s eyeliner styles are still recreated to this day. In the era of makeup tutorials on platforms like YouTube and Instagram, graphic eyeliners, including precise cat eyes and bold shapes, have made a stylish comeback.

Shine with 'All Things Shimmer':

Eye shadows are found in many different forms with matte and shimmer formations being the most popular ones. Matte eye shadows were in the limelight in 1990’s, they were THE thing. But today not just matte but shimmer eye shadows are equally popular. Shimmer shadows can be worn in many different ways from a light wash all over the lids to stronger contrasting look with a more prominent socket. You can transform your simple eye makeup with a dash of shimmer and glitter shadows applied either with finger tips or a small brush applicator.

Achieve Natural Elegance with 'Feathered Eyebrows':

This is a personal favourite of mine. Just like any other aspect of makeup, eye brows have seen their highs and lows (which weren’t fashionably lows but YKWIM). From pencil thin eyebrows of 1990’s to slightly fuller ones in 2000’s, latest eyebrows trend tells you to pluck them lightly, only where needed keeping the fuller shape and then shape the hair with a hair gel, eyebrow gel or even soap. Yes you read that right. This technique gives your eyebrow hair fuller look and keeps them in shape throughout the day. You can then either proceed to fill in the gaps with a brow filling product or leave the hair as is and enjoy a more natural look.

Like I said in the beginning, makeup is a powerful form of self-expression, and trends come and go. Your individual style may even spark a new makeup trend, so embrace your uniqueness and don't hesitate to experiment with different looks.

Let's Collaborate!

Another day and another clothing brand approaches me with the offer to 'collaborate'.

Collaboration, Credits

I don't even bother asking now if they are looking forward to a paid collaboration.

They promise "proper" credits to be given to the Makeup Artist for coming on-board.

In their head, we are the most non-prioritized creatives in any project and we are worth nothing but a "proper" mention in the credits.

My reply? A professional flat-out No.

Dear Clothing/Jewelry/Shoes/Whatever Brands,
When you get in touch with a Makeup Artist for one of your commercial projects, kindly approach them with a good budget, not penniless and never ask for free work. Trust me, you neither come off professional nor respectful.

Yours Truly,
A Makeup Artist of 5 solid years of work experience.

Stop Calling Yourself A Makeup Artist Unless..

It's been forever since I last blogged because, firstly I really didn't have any reviews to share with you guys and secondly I have been busy and most of the time lazy. Until I realised, this is our blog and it shouldn't be limited to product reviews only. And today I decided I should start using my blog to pour my heart out as well.

So here it goes for today.

A lot of my fellow peeps here will be offended by what I am about to say but I must.

Until last year I thought anyone with good makeup skills can apply makeup on others, make money, teach others and ultimately put the prestigious tag of Makeup Artist with their names, in their profiles and social media.

Until I was made to see the 'real' reality, experienced a bit of it and my opinion changed.

The tag 'Makeup Artist' is highly prestigious, it doesn't only involve a person with great makeup skills shown through their selfies or the huge collections of makeup available at their disposable.

It's actually nothing like that.

Mastering as many faces as you can, continuously pushing yourself and not following the Instagram trends are a few of the obvious ones but here is why I think just anyone shouldn't call themselves a Makeup Artist.

1. Don't call yourself a Makeup Artist if you have not and cannot yet do a full face with limited products. The less makeup you have, the more you force your brain to think, create and make good use of the products.

2. Don't call yourself a Makeup Artist if you cannot multi-task WHILE doing great makeup on a face.

3. Don't call yourself a Makeup Artist if you have not and cannot yet deal with the stress that comes along with dealing with a client, managing the time and YET doing great makeup.

4. Don't call yourself a Makeup Artist if you have not and cannot yet do makeup on someone under ANY condition. They might be busy on their phones, they might be moving a lot, they might be talking a lot. Deal with it.

5. Don't call yourself a Makeup Artist if you cannot tell bad makeup apart from good and great makeup.

6. Don't call yourself a Makeup Artist if you think you have learnt it all, done it all and have reached perfection. Staying open to learning is crucial.

Professional Makeup Artists call themselves so for a reason, actually no, for a number of reasons and they are completely justified when self-proclaimed Makeup Artists make them cringe. They have mastered the art over the years by practicing it on other faces, they know how to deal with people under different conditions, they have gone through the stress, the sweat and the tears to get everything work in their favour, they have gone through sleepless nights thinking about a way to make a product work or to achieve a certain look, they have spent hours and hours learning how to do a full face using only primary colours. And it will probably take forever to put all the reasons together.

Let's respect the title, let's respect the profession. I know a lot of us wish to be one of those including myself but let's just not call ourselves or claim to be a Makeup Artist unless we know all of that shiz.

I have experienced a fraction of what I have said and I know there's a lot more to come if I am to continue pursuing this work.

Yours truly,
Fizzah

Catrice Ultimate Color Lipsticks - Review

Hey Guys! I am super excited to share these lipsticks with you today because I have loved this range from Germany based brand, Catrice, for a long time and I finally got the chance to lay my hands on these beauties! I think this formula and the awesome shade selection is going to perfect for all sorts of weather. Read on to find out why they have captured my heart!

Product Claims

Highly-pigmented, rich shades with perfect coverage and shine, plus a smooth, creamy and long-lasting texture: color at its most beautiful – that lasts for hours. Available for the first time: two matt nuances is coral-pink and orange-red. And: a beautiful pink-nude shade.

What Do I Think?

Picture taken Indoor
Picture taken in daylight
Rarely does a product come along that ticks all the boxes. Ladies, I believe I have found the perfect lipstick! The packaging is luxurious, sturdy and really helpful too. I love the classy black design and how the bottom is the same color as the bullet with the shade name and number on it, encased in a crystalline structure. The formula was super creamy which is why this is the first time I did not apply a lip balm underneath a lipstick. It still turned out fabulous! The lasting power is quite nice too because it lasts around 4 hours and even stays almost completely intact through a light snack. It has a mild sweet berry scent which is quite pleasant and does not linger at all. The shades I got were all creamy and suit my neutral toned skin well. I got three shades which I will be showing you today so hold on to your hearts lipstick lovers!

Berry Bradshaw

This is a deep intense berry color. This will look good on every skin tone, some more than others. It is great for sophisticated mature looks and also vampy ones. Every girl needs a little Sex and the City in their lives right?

Pinkadilly Circus

What a cute name! This a fresh bright pink color that is the perfect balance between warm and cool so I am pretty sure it will look good on everyone. It is actually deeper than it looks in the swatches.

The Lips are on Fire

Aptly named because it is a fiery coral that will make people wonder if you are wearing pink or orange? Quite the chameleon! It will look on neutral and cool tones because it is almost neon so warmer toned beauties should definitely swatch it before buying it.

Fall Look: Romantic Vs. Glam

It fall time, yay! And that calls for some warm eyes and bold lips ;) I was experimenting with makeup the other day and came up with TWO looks that could be achieved simply by the change of lip colour! Yes you read it right. J Without further delay let’s have a look on what I came up with.

Face
Garnier B. B. Cream (Light)
Essence Mattifying Compact Powder (Natural Beige 01)
Luscious Studio Secret Instant Brightening Concealer (No. 2)
MUA Blusher (Lolly)

Eyes
BH Cosmetics 120 Colour Eye Shadow Palette 5th Edition
MUA Professional Eyes Primer
Essence Eyeliner Pen Extra Longlasting
Essence Maximum Definition Volume Mascara
MUA Intense Colour Eyeliner (Rich Brown)
Essence Stays No Matter What Eyepencil and Shadow (07 Whipped White Frosting)
Sweet Touch Eyelash Adhesive
Kryolan Eye Lashes (TV-5)

Lips
WetnWild Lipsticks (In The Flesh and Cherry Bomb)

Lid: Copper gold
Crease 1: Pale gold
Crease 2: Matte plum
Inner Corner: Champagne
Brow-bone: Pale silver

1. Apply primer and prepare your brows.

2. Apply the warm gold Lid colour all over your lids.

3. Blend it out with Crease 1 colour, add Crease 2 colour and blend some more.

4. Deepen the crease with Crease 2 colour until desired depth is achieved.

5. Apply Inner Corner colour and Brow-bone colour to highlight inner corners and brow bone. Add Lid colour some more in the centre of your lid to bring back the intensity lost during blending.

6. Apply the Lid colour on your lower lash line, a white or champagne pencil on your waterline to make your eyes appear larger and a deep brown pencil or matte shadow on the out part of your lower lash line for extra dimension.

7. Finish off with eyeliner
and mascara on upper and bottom lashes
(I added lashes cut in half on the outer part of my eyes only to give them extra volume without overdoing, since I have sparse lashes).

The Final Look

After you are done with the eyes,
conceal your under eyes, apply foundation or BB cream you desire,
powder to mattify, a peachy-coral blush like MUA Lolly and lipstick.

A tip for newbies:
After you are done with the eye makeup,
take a Q-tip and remove the eye-shadows below your eyeliner
wing that will give your eyes more cleaner and defined look.

And here is the finished look with
WetnWild “In The Flesh” to give it a soft romantic touch
and WetnWild “Cherry Bomb” for that extra glamorous look. ;)

Left: Glam Look with "Cherry Bomb", Right: Romantic Look with "In The Flesh"
Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Fizzah
