A Berry-licious Essence Review!

Essence Home Sweet Home “Knits for chicks” blush & “Berry me home” long lasting lipstick

Hi lovelies! I hope you are all excited about the changing weather leading towards fall/winter because today I will be reviewing two products from a winter themed range. Who doesn’t love to add plumy berry shades to their makeup looks at this time of year?

Essence Home Sweet Home “Berry Me Home” Long Lasting Lipstick

Product Claims

A long lasting lipstick.

Essence Berry Me Home (L-R: Residual stain, single swipe) (Indoors)
Essence Berry Me Home (daylight)

What Do I Think?

The first thing I noticed was the packaging which was disappointingly like that of their regular lipsticks. It feels cheap and breakable and the only good thing about it is that it is the same shade as the lip colour, making it easier to identify. On opening the cap, I was hit with a powerful sweet berry scent which unfortunately doesn’t seem to fade much overtime. It’s not altogether unpleasant but is not for someone who isn’t a fan of scented lip products. Coming to the colour, it’s a really pretty bright berry pink which isn’t too deep if you tend to shy away from deeper shades. It is highly pigmented and the application is smooth and soft with a cream finish although the texture feels a bit waxy for some reason. So, it doesn’t feel that weightless on the lips and cannot be applied without a lip brush.  A plus point is that it’s not drying at all. The wear time is around 4 hours and it leaves quite a stain behind which isn’t that easy to remove. It bleeds a little so a clear lip pencil would be a great help. I personally think a deeper berry shade lip pencil underneath it will not only make it last longer but also give a deeper tone to it to create the perfect fall/winter lips. I have neutral skin that leans towards warmer tones. Overall, it’s not too bright or too deep so I feel it would look good on most skin tones.

Essence Home Sweet Home “Knits For Chicks” Blush

Product Claims

Silky soft blush for a natural and fresh looking complexion.

L-R: Background shade. Strip shade (two swipes, indoors)
L-R: Background (baby pink), strip (berry), both blended (indoors)
Both shades blended together (daylight)
Both shades blended together (daylight)

What Do I Think?

For starters, it is so cute to look at because of its knitted pattern in the two light pink and berry shades. The packaging is not too flimsy either. I agree with the silky part because the texture is quite fine and smooth to touch so the application is easy and it’s not hard to blend either. It is not particularly long lasting especially in hot humid climates and touch ups are definitely needed. Both colours contain micro shimmer particles that look multi coloured to me. The good thing is that it translates into a healthy sheen on my cheeks if I don’t go overboard with it. It’s especially flattering during night time events under artificial lights. It’s great that I have two colours to choose from and can adjust the depth of the blush by the shade ratio I use. The design is not only pretty to look at but serves to nicely separate them. The individual colours are clearly visible on the first swipe. The background is a delicate baby pink with a strip of a gorgeous deep berry shade. Blended together, they create a lovely medium berry pink with light shimmer that would compliment a number of different skin tones and makeup looks particularly for this season.

Essence XXXL Long lasting Lip Gloss Matt Effect Review and Swatches

Today under the spotlight is the very new Essence XXXL Long lasting Lip Gloss Matt Effect - 06 Soft Nude.

Product Claims

It is a longlasting, silky lipcream for a soft matt finish.

What Do I Think?

Let’s begin with packaging, shall we? The product comes in a sleek clear tube with a somewhat flat applicator which is very convenient to apply this product. I have this habit of smelling lip products J and this one smells caramel and vanilla which I love, the scent disappears once the product is applied. It has a creamy texture and consistency and applies more like a lip cream than a gloss, which I really like. The shade is a flesh-toned one; since my lips are a bit pigmented (I have medium complexion with yellow undertones) I shy off from wearing nude colours as they wash off my lips, but to my surprise this one does not. It is a my-lips-but-better shade on me and will really complement smoky eyes. This shade will suit light to medium skin tones.

It makes the lines visible to some extent once it becomes matte but it does not feel dry at all, it keeps the lips soft. However, you might not like the matte effect if you have chipped lips, I’d suggest people with dry lips to use lip balm underneath this gloss. Wear time is 3 hours max with eating and drinking after that I felt the need of reapplication. I like to reply this after removing the previous layer of product because after about 4 hours it started fading and left a dry line (which is not unusual with many lip products). Overall, I am impressed by their formula, which is matte and moisturizing at the same time.

PKR 495

Palmer’s Olive Butter Formula With Vitamin E Body Lotion Review

It is that strange time of the year again when fall is close but the weather is still hot and sunny particularly close to the equator. So while we are sweating profusely, the humidity drop is leaving the skin dry. So what do we do? We can’t use our heavy winter moisturizers in this weather neither can we bear dry skin. Is Palmers olive butter formula with Vitamin E body lotion the knight in green armour we have all been waiting for?

Palmer's Olive Butter Formula

Product Claims

Palmer’s olive oil formula has the power to transform your skin. Extra virgin olive oil takes care of your skin in multiple ways:

  • Unique lipid structure moisturizes instantly
  • Loaded with antioxidants to keep skin youthful
  • Emulsifies on contact for superior skin smoothing
  • Anti Aging Peptide Complex helps improve skin’s firmness and elasticity

What Do I Think?

I was in dire need of moisturization for my sensitive combination skin as the weather bent towards the dry fall season. Every time the season changes my skin goes dry as if it’s an indicator for this. I have always had good experience with Palmer’s products so I decided to give this a go. It’s a pale green soft, airy lotion that doesn’t feel heavy or greasy at all even though it contains extra virgin olive oil. It has a gentle jasmine fragrance that I personally like but people sensitive to fragrant skin products may not find appealing. You don’t need a lot of product to get smooth supple skin because it is highly moisturizing and absorbs quickly. I found it great for my combination skin and also tested it out on my sister’s oily sensitive skin. My verdict is that all skin types will find it suitable for fall and winter although I am not sure about sweltering summers.

Price

PKR 425.

Availability

Palmer’s can be bought from major departmental stores throughout Pakistan. I bought this from Raheem store, Lahore.

Pros

Paraben free
Light airy consistency
Contains extra virgin olive oil
Suitable for all skin types
Contains Vitamin E
Contains Anti Aging Peptide Complex
Good healing power for dry skin
Animal cruelty free

Cons

Contains fragrance
Some might find it a bit expensive
Contains green chemical pigment

My Rating

4/5
