ColourPop Super Shock Cheek & Eyes – Swatches, Looks & Review

This is one post I believe has been delayed the most on our blog and chances are by the time you read it here you have already seen, cherished and drooled over most of the swatches we shall be sharing here :D But that still does not kill our enthusiasm and dedication to get this post out and about.

We have reviewed Colour Pop Liquid lipsticks in two separate posts in the past, which you can view Here and Here but since the Colour Pop Super Shock formula on cheek and eye products differs greatly from anything we have used so far, we considered it fair enough to dedicate a separate post to them.

Colour Pop Super Shock Shadow

I am attracted towards everything and anything metallic when it comes to eye shadows and being an eye shadow hoarder it was hard for me to not go overboard while choosing and purchasing the little babies. Yet I managed to restrain myself to only a few and let me take a moment here to tell you guys, the metallics and ultra-metallics in ColourPop Super Shock Shadow range are simply brilliant! They are such an eye candy to look at. I have had many people swooning and drooling over these when they saw me using them (hehehe).

Product Description

For maximum coverage: Use fingertip and tap shadow onto eye lid. A flat, fine tip synthetic brush will work fabulously as well and is actually better for a more detailed application close to the lash line. However, your fingertips make for the most intense application. To blend: Use a fluffy brush that has good movement, dip tip of the brush into the shadow and blend with a “wind shield wiper” movement throughout the crease of the eye. This will make your shadow softer and more diffused (like a total pro). When finished, close that sucker up tight! Don’t leave the jar opened for long periods of time, you may lose some of the magic that makes the Super Shock Shadow so amazing.

What Do We Think

All the products in Super Shock range comes in identical packaging – a regular screw-lid pot which feels and looks sturdy; pretty good packaging done there by an affordable brand. The formula on the Super Shock range is not your usual powder or cream or powder-to-cream, it’s very atypical and nothing like we have ever used before. Did that come as a pleasant new experience to us? Yes and no.

For the starters, the formula is loaded with pigmentation. All the eye shadows we have are super pigmented whether metallic or ultra-metallic, although we feel ultra-metallics have that extra bam! effect to them. We don’t own any mattes or satins from the line and I have a logical explanation to that as well.

The formula is a cushion-y cream that applies and dries like a powder. Does it make sense? It’s really hard to describe and probably that’s the reason which interests and fascinates makeup hoarders and enthusiasts about Colour Pop Super Shock line. We have tried using it with synthetic brushes and like they recommend, with fingers as well and in our experience any synthetic brush does not really pick up the product if you try doing so by dipping the brush in it, it’s the formula which is sort of incompatible and applies the best with fingers only. The best we could do with these was to apply with the finger, pack as much as we want on the lid and blend out the edges with a fluffy blending brush.

I neither use shimmer shades in my crease nor on anybody else. So the mattes or satins, which would probably go in the creases and less likely onto the lid, were a turn down for me. I might be wrong but I just never gave them a chance. I have used these over primed lids and have not experienced any creasing. They last long and do not fade away.

Liberty – Described as the ultra-metallic true intense silver Liberty is the next most dazzling shadow in my stash. It actually came broken to me and pressing the product down with finger did less than any fixing and I kept losing more of the product. It glides on smoothly with zero fallout. Liberty is a close match to Makeup Forever’s Flash Color Pot Silver Cream.

So just a quick tip here, Inglot’s Duraline is what I used to fix my Liberty. I added a drop of it to the product, levelled the surface with a spatula and left the Duraline to evaporate. There, the eye shadow fixed without losing product to dry pressing.

Sequin – A metallic finish copper-penny-like shade with silver and gold glitter. As far as I know, this shade is the shade with the most “glittery” appearance in the entire range. Like the name suggests, it rather looks like a handful of sequins. It really pops on the lids and nearly blinds you in sunlight. You get the glitter effect without any fallout and can layer it over other shadows, which why this a total win for me.

Nillionaire – Described as a warm bronze with tons of gold and multi coloured glitter, Nillioanire is what I call a game-changer for any eye look I do. It’s packed with glitter and when swatched it is definitely more glitter than pigment which makes it ideal to use over any other shadow underneath. The multi-coloured glitter transforms the look of any shadow and brings oomph to it. The glitter in it is prone to fallout.

The next four shadows are part of a set which Kathleen Lights made in collaboration with ColourPop. You can buy these individually if you don’t want to commit to all four. I loved all of them and had to get my hands on the entire set.

Telepathy – It is the most brilliant gold shadow I have in my stash. Described as an ultra- metallic finish bright gold with a green undertone, packed onto the lid it flatters our desi skin tones so well. Loaded with fine gold specks, it is another close match to Makeup Forever’s Flash Color Pot Gold Cream. Telepathy applies smoothly with no fallout.

Weenie – It is described as a pearlized finish pinky rose gold. I have a thing for Golds, Rose Golds, Pink-Golds, Olive-Golds, basically Golds of any type. I can have all of them yet will buy more. Weenie is a super pretty pink rose gold which looks amazing on cool, neutral and warm skin tones alike. The formula to this as well is buttery smooth with no fallouts.

Porter – It is described as a metallic finish warm burgundy with multi-dimensional gold glitter. The gold glitter makes Porter amazing to wear alone. I feel this one lacks pigmentation as compared to the others I have. I feel the need to go over a couple of times with it to get the desired intensity.

Midnight – It is described as a metallic finish black undertone shadow loaded with gold glitter. Again, I feel it’s more glitter and less pigment compared to the pearlized finish ones making it ideal as a top coat over any shadow. The glitter is prone to fallout which seems like a common issue with metallics in Colour Pop Super Shock range.

Colour Pop Super Shock Cheek

Colour Pop Super Shock blushes come in two finishes, matte and satin. Although I wanted to like the matte finish more than the satin one yet it failed to impress me.

Product Description

Fingertips will provide the highest amount of coverage. Brush suggestions: Use a flat synthetic cheek/ foundation brush or a short duo fiber brush; flat synthetic brush will give more coverage and the duo fiber brush will give a more sheer, air brushed effect. WHEN FINISHED: Close that sucker up tight! Don’t leave the jar opened for long periods of time; you may lose some of the magic that makes the Super Shock Cheek so amazing. Colour builds from natural- looking flushed looks to more intense bright looks. Build to your heart’s desire!

What Do We Think

The packaging is identical, the regular screw-lid pots and the formula on Super Shock blushes is pretty much the same with some minor but visible differences from the eye shadows. Cruel Intentions and Never Been Kissed two limited edition shades released in their Fall 2015 collection.

Cruel Intentions – A warm rose in a Matte finish. Unlike The mattes are not truly matte because you can see super fine shimmer in their pans under sunlight. This is what offers a very natural sheen to them when applied. As you probably guessed, all Colour Pop blushes do not possess the same formula. Cruel Intentions is one of the better ones. It is soft and blends well leaving a gentle stain. This is a very versatile shade that works for many looks. It is a wonderful option for those who just want a rosy glow to their cheeks.

Never Been Kissed – Described as a dusty coral in a Matte finish. The colour is really pretty coral which flatters a lot of skin tones. However, it is not my favourite for many reasons. First, the formula feels drier than Cruel Intentions. It’s that kind of matte waxy formula that does not apply consistently onto the skin but rather appears patchy. I do blend it out properly but even then it is not something I’d reach out for more often. Second, since the formula is similar to eye shadows and is best applied with fingers, Never Been Kissed sticks to my finger and doesn’t really show up on cheeks. I have to dip in my finger quite many times to get the desired effect.

Cheerio – It is described as a deep cranberry in a satin finish. Nothing like the matte finish, the formula on Cheerio is superb. I am actually amazed how greatly the two formulae could differ in performance. The satin formula does not apply patchy, goes on smoothly, does not stick to my finger and has a fine visible sheen to it which gives a brilliant dimensional effect to cheeks. The deep cranberry shade is perfect for many skin tones since it is buildable to desired intensity and can flatter deeper skin tones as natural flush.

A quick tip: If you want flushed cheeks with dimension, avoid matte blushes. Cream blushes or powder ones with fine visible sheen or shimmer to them look a lot more flattering than powder mattes.

Wisp – Described as a golden champagne highlighter with highly reflective hues of gold duo chrome. I fell in love with it the moment I swatched it. Cream or liquid highlighters look the best as they lack any visible or big chunks of glitter or shimmer and hence look a lot more flattering even on skins even with those relatively bigger pores. I don’t know if it’s with every highlighter from the line but the formula of Wisp feels and applies a lot better than blushes. It does not sport the same embossed texture like eye shadows and blushes and has a flat surface. It is very creamy and applies and blends superbly with fingers. Either you are a fan of subtle glow or strong highlight, Wisp can be built up to desired intensity. It has a downside to it though, I feel it transfers. After a few hours, depending on the temperature outside, it shifts. A good primer and making fixing spray might help reducing the issue though.
