ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip– New Formula & Swatches Update!

We posted our review on the very famous ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks a few months back and the only problem we had with the product was how tricky the formula was to apply. ColourPop is the one brand who takes their customers’ reviews very seriously and not long ago they introduced some new shades to the range with an improved formula. We were too excited to give the new and superior formula a try and immediately ordered ours. We surely are impressed, kudos ColourPop!

Product Claims

The thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips smoothly and leaves super intense pigment-rich colour with a bold, ultra matte look. It's very long wearing and completely kiss-proof!

What Do We Think?

Since we have already written a detailed review on the product here we are only talking about the new formula. The consistency of the new formula is the same like the old one, thin and rather runny. It dries out quickly but gives you enough time to refine the application. Unlike the older formula, the newer one is not at all difficult to work with. You get enough time to perfect the application before it completely dries out. With the older formula there was a characteristic withering effect on the lips if not moisturized prior to the application, which is not the case with this formula. We use these without a balm and they still do not dry out the lips. However, if you have flaky lips, we recommend you exfoliate or apply a lip balm for perfect application before you apply any liquid lipstick. The staying power is amazing, 6 – 7 hours with eating and drinking before you experience any product chipping off. Like the older formula, the newer one if completely transfer-proof.

We mentioned a few tips to get the perfect application with a liquid lipstick, i.e. to line the lips and not to press them together while the product is not completely dry. Lining the lips gives you a better control over the application but pressing the lips when the product is still wet is not an issue with this formula. The pigmentation in both the versions is excellent however; layering up the product with the older formula would leave a mess on the lips, which does not happen with the newer one. Although unnecessary, since the pigmentation is good enough to give opaque coverage in a single swipe but you may want to go back and forth over the already applied product to get the perfect application and we are so glad the new formula is forgiving in that department.

Moreover, ColourPop has changed the formula of the entire range which means you can get the older shades with the better formula now. :D

Clueless – A rosy mauve shade.
Bumble – A very pretty pink-brown shade (pretty hard to describe exactly).
More Better – A deep wine berry shade.

OFRA Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks – Review and Swatches

After so many requests from you guys to post my views on OFRA Liquid Lipsticks as soon as I can, here I am in the middle of the night, all swatched up, in my PJs, wearing the darkest shade out of the range, writing the review, ah! Things we do for the sake of blogging...

Product Claims

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick is a one step full lip colour that does not feather. These vibrant colours will give you a vivacious new look. They are creamy and soft in texture, moisturizing the lips and creating a long lasting lipstick effect. No need to use lip liner, this liquid lipstick gives a beautiful edge to your lip look!

All shades contain antioxidants and Vitamin E while the formula provides a lightweight layer of lasting colour to make you look stunning all day. Colour will last in a perfect condition up to five hours without eating or drinking. For best results do not eat or drink for 15 minutes after applying.

What Do I Think?

The lipsticks come as a pretty standard plastic tube with a doe-foot applicator and the product itself smells vanilla-ish, very similar to the fragrance Essence Stay Matte Lip Creams had, if any of you guys have had a chance of using those. I personally have no issue with any kind of scent in makeup products/moisturizers/shampoos unless it makes me nauseous and this one, I just keeping inhaling it, that’s how yummy it is to me.

The formula, which is very creamy and not liquid-y like ColorPop Ultra Mattes, reminds me a lot of DMGM Photofix Liquid Lipsticks but a bit creamier. People say it resembles NYX Matte Lip Creams as well but I cannot comment on that since I have not used those. The liquid lipsticks I have used until now pretty much set really fast after application but these took a little while, around 5–6 minutes, to lose their sheen and go completely matte. The pigmentation is excellent and the product goes completely opaque in a single swipe. What amazed me that although these set matte (I’d rather not say dry), the product remained and felt creamy on my lips and did not dry them out. My lips were a bit flaky and being my typical-lazy-Garfield-self I just wore the lipsticks without exfoliating the lips. Yes, I know, it’s a crime to wear lipsticks that way *insert rolling eyes emoji*. To my surprise, the formula did not accentuate any dryness, glided on smoothly and kept the lips supple and smooth throughout the time I had the product on. The wear time is pretty amazing too, 5 – 6 hours, with eating and drinking, until I noticed some product wearing off from the centre of lips. Because of this trait, a good makeup remover is what you will need to get these completely off.

I don’t know if it’s the piece I got is like that or if Santa Monica’s formula differs from the rest, I noticed it to be a bit thicker, less moisturizing and a bit harder to take off compared to the rest which although did not decrease its wear time nor made it drying but I did notice it set faster than the rest. In fact, I liked it the most out of the five probably because Fuschia colours are just my thing baby!

The only downside to these lipsticks I found was they transferred a bit probably because the formula isn’t made to dry out completely in the first place. The brand, although suggests you wait for 15 minutes after wearing the product and avoid eating or drinking anything during that time to get the best results but I found the product does not become completely transfer-proof even after you go through the drill (oh well, not the drill but you get the idea, right? :-D

Here is a breakdown of the shades:

Mocha – Mauve-y nude
Miami Fever – Burnt Orange with brown undertones
Hollywood – Dull neon-y pink with blue undertones
Santa Monica – Bright Fuschia Pink
Mina – Very deep berry with brown undertones (not oxblood colour)

I dug into my stash to find any shades that matched these and below is a picture of comparative swatches.

Please Note these are in no way dupes of OFRA Liquid Lipsticks, none of these are actually the same in terms of formula or shades.

Miami Fever remains unique; I did not have anything like that.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip– Review and Swatches

Our love affair with liquid lipsticks continues...

They came, they saw, they conquered. This is true for ColourPop. Their products, especially the liquid lipsticks, are all the hype these days! We were so excited to try them out when we received our first ColourPop package. I, for one, am a huge fan of bold lips. To be honest, flushed cheeks, a highlighter and a bright lip is all that I ask for. Although my stash is full of similar bright hued lipsticks, I chose to go for some eye-catching colours from ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip range yet again.

Product Claims

The thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips smoothly and leaves super intense pigment-rich colour with a bold, ultra matte look. It's very long wearing and completely kiss-proof!

What Do I Think?

The packaging consists of a simple but good quality plastic tube that comes enclosed within a white box. These have thinnest formula among the ones I have tried up till now. The others have a creamy consistency, which takes a bit longer to dry and set. This isn’t the case with ColourPop liquid lipsticks. Since the formula is quite thin, these dry within a few seconds so you need to be very quick at application. The pigmentation and staying power is the best I have seen until now in any liquid lipstick I have used. These stay put on your lips for 7 hours straight before they begin to chip off. Completely water-proof (haven’t checked the kiss-proof claim though :-D). Sadaf has kissed her stuff toys while wearing it and supports this claim. You have heard it all before, right? On the downside, these are quite tricky to apply especially if it’s the first time you are using any liquid lipstick.

Here are a few tips that will help you get the smoothest and most flawless application with ColourPop liquid lipsticks.
  • The formula of these lipsticks isn’t best friends with flaky lips. Therefore, scrubbing your lips really helps it go on smoothly.
  • When I first applied these I felt my lips withered under the product when it dried! (Yes, that’s the effect an ultra-matte lipstick has). It wasn’t the most comfortable experience. I realized later where I was going wrong. Applying these on dry lips won’t leave you comfortable with the product so make sure your lips are hydrated.
  • Line your lips first. Unless your hands can move with the amazing speed of The Flash, I would not suggest skipping lip liner. Lining your lips directly with the product’s applicator may require you to go over and over again on your lips which will only create a mess.
  • You get a blob of the product on the applicator when you take it out of the tube. Instead of removing the excess, stretch your lips very slightly. Then apply that blob starting in the middle and spread it evenly over your lips. Do this twice, once for the upper lip and once for the lower. Let it dry and do not press the lips together until the product has dried completely.
  • Do not layer it up because you don’t need to. One swipe and that's all you need to get opaque coverage. I tried layering it up but it did nothing except ruin the intact layer beneath.

Ouiji: Neon coral. The perfect summer coral.

Highball: Hot pink. A universal blue-hued bright pink.

Mars: Bright fuchsia. A shade that anybody can rock.

DMGM Photo Fix Lip Color – Review and Swatches

By far most of you guys already have an idea about my – actually mine and Sadaf’s – obsession with lipsticks especially liquid lipsticks. I had DMGM Photo Fix Lip Colors on my wishlist ever since I first spotted the swatch of Plum Frost online. For some odd reasons I did not buy it for quite some time until, while on my trip to Khi, I stumbled upon the brand everywhere I went! And finally one day, leaving behind all the self-restraint I had imposed upon myself, I entered Scentsation in Dolmen Mall (leaving my aunt and cousin to shop groceries) and swatched a few Photo Fix Lip Colors from the range and ended up choosing Plum Frost. I bought Exotic Rose a few days back from just4girls.

Product Claims

Get set for instant glamour with just a one step sweep of light weight, non–transfer liquid lip color. Provides exceptional coverage with a moisturizing rich matte finish. Longwearing & comfortable on the lips. Won't feather or smudge.

What Do I Think?

They come in a packaging similar to MUA Intense Kisses, a small sturdy high quality plastic tube with a fine doe-foot applicator that picks up right amount of product. The formula of both the colours I got is very creamy, applies really smooth and dries matte within seconds. Both Plum Frost and Exotic Rose have very fine shimmer which is invisible to naked eyes unless you really stare at the swatches; also undetectable once you apply the product on lips. A thin layer of product gives you perfect opaque coverage, that’s how pigmented they are. I tried layering up to see if they get tacky but to my pleasant surprise, they didn’t. Although not over-powering and annoying but there is a scent to these liquid lipsticks, typical of makeup products, which is undetectable when the product is applied.
Now coming to the insane part! The lasting power. These are super long lasting! Apply as a creamy formula and once dried matte they do not feather or budge at all so much so that you will need a good oil-based makeup remover to get the product completely off your lips. Yes, water and soap also don’t work to remove it. I noticed a slight uneven coverage with the shade Exotic Rose, which I presume is due to it being a shade lighter than Plum Frost and I being a person suffering from OCD. Haha! Anyway, you may need to fill in those spaces while applying this shade to achieve the perfectly opaque coverage.
The weather these days is extremely hot and humid, the time of the year when I shy away from wearing any king of makeup because I perspire a lot and DMGM Photo Fix Lip Color stayed affix on my lips for straight 7+ hours and that too with eating and drinking. These really live up to DMGM’s claim of being water-proof and transfer-proof (I put them to test by kissing the back of my hand a few times :D). A makeup product that survives Pakistan’s hot and humid weather and my perspiration is a keepsake and these for sure are. I plan to pick up a few more shades from the range especially Bahama Spice and Fuschia Bite.

I’d suggest girls with warmer and darker complexions to swatch Exotic Rose on themselves before purchasing it just to be on safe side.

Here is a casual snap of a few swatches I took when I bought Plum Frost from Scentsation, Dolmen Mall. I am so sorry I don't remember at all what the fourth swatch was of :(
